Cuban canoeists Cirilo and Yinnolisto train in Portugal



HAVANA, Cuba, January 27 (ACN) Cuban canoeists YarisleidisCirilo and YinnolisFranchesca Lopez will travel to Portugal today for a training camp, marking the beginning of the critical path approved for 2026.

Alejandro Hamze, president and national commissioner of canoeing (canoe and kayak), informed the Cuban News Agency that Yarisleidis and Yinnolis will be in Portugal until February 7, accompanied by coach Nelson Perales and physiotherapist Lazaro Perez.

He noted that both "are among the top athletes in canoeing, competing in the women's single-seater C-1 and double-seater C-2 canoes.

“This stay in Portugal will be important in preparation for the current Olympic cycle, which concludes in Los Angeles 2028, and includes the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo 2026 and the Pan American Games in Lima 2027.

Canoeing, particularly the canoe, undoubtedly had a successful 2025, a year that ended with 12 full team slots for Santo Domingo 2026. Yarisleidis and Yinnolis were the main protagonists that year.

At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Cirilo won a bronze medal in the single-seater (C-1) 200 meters, and Yinnolis joined her in the double-seater (C-2) 500 meters, reaching the A final. In 2025, Cirilo reached the A finals of the World Cups in Szeged, Hungary, and Poznan, Poland, foreshadowing what would happen shortly after, as she won gold medals. and silver in the C-1 200 meters at the U23 and senior world championships, held in Portugal and Italy, respectively.
