HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (ACN) Cuban U-19 national soccer team will face Panama Friday, in their debut match at the UNCAF FIFA Forward U-19 Tournament, which will be played from December 5-11 at Yappy Park and COS Sports Plaza stadiums in Panama City.
Despite not being a member of the Central American Football Union (UNCAF), Cuba received an invitation along with Puerto Rico, and both teams will complete the eight-team field divided into two groups, according to the online edition of the sports publication JIT.
Cubans will play in Group A, which also includes Honduras, Nicaragua, and the host country, Panama. Group B will feature Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Puerto Rico.
Cuba will play against Honduras Sunday, December 7, and will close out the preliminary round on Tuesday, December 9, against Nicaragua.
On December 11, the top teams from each group will compete for the tournament title, while the second-place teams will face off for the bronze medal.
The two third-place teams will compete for fifth place, and the fourth-place teams will play to avoid last place.
This tournament will serve as preparation for the Cuban team as they prepare for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo and begin their qualifying campaign for the 2027 FIFA U-20 World Cup, to be held in Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan.
