HAVANA, Cuba, November 17 (ACN) The Cuban beach volleyball pair of Noslen Díaz and Jorge Luis Alayo advanced as undefeated leaders to the round of 16 of the World Championship, under way in Adelaide, Australia, after a 2-1 victory over the Portuguese Pedrosa and Hugo Campos.
Díaz and Alayo had previously beaten the Beninese pairs Dao-Tohoulgnon (Benin) and Brad Fuller-Ben O’Dea (New Zealand), both in two sets.
The Cubans finished first in their group with 3-0, followed by Portugal (2-1), New Zealand (1-2), and Benin (0-3).
The other Cuban pair, Damián Gómez and Eblis Veranes, finished in fourth and last place in Group J after suffering their third loss, this time to Ives Haussener and Julian Freidli (Switzerland), and earlier to the Austrians Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger and the Qataris Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse.
