Mexican marathon runner wins main event of MARABANA 2025

HAVANA, Cuba, November 16 (ACN) After 32 years, a foreign marathon runner won the 42.195-kilometer race in the men's category of Cuba's main road race, Marabana, in its 39th edition.

It was the Mexican Miguel Ángel Vega, who could not beat his personal best (2:32:40 hrs) but won the title with a time of 2:38:51 hrs.

"This is my first time in an international competition. I recommend runners from other countries to come to Havana, where the people, the climate, the course, and the city are excellent," said the leader of the Runners Nezahualcóyotl club, based in Alameda Oriente, near Mexico City.

"We came as a team, although I was the only one of the group who ran the marathon; the others chose other distances. And we'll definitely come again next year," he stressed.

Coincidentally, the last foreigners to win the race were also Mexican, namely Alejandro Salvador in 1992 and Marcelino López in 1993.

MARABANA 2025 assembled 3,155 runners, 340 of whom were from other countries, mainly Mexico, Colombia, the United States, and Spain.

The 40th edition of this sport event will take place on November 15, 2026.
