SANTIAGO DE CHILE, Chile, November 6 (ACN) Cuban para-athletics team won 18 medals (8 gold, 8 silver, and 2 bronze) at the 6th Parapan American Youth Games in Chile, surpassing Cuba's performance at Bogota 2023 (5-2-3).
Cuban athletes earned a total of eight more medals over the three days of competition at the Mario Recordon open track in the National Stadium Park.
Even the chilly spring weather couldn't deter them from their goal of making a significant contribution and surpassing their performance from two years ago: 22 medals (11-7-4).
Cubans traveled to the capital almost two weeks prior to the Games, where they completed a productive training camp.
The young athletes, making their debut at this type of competition, appreciated this opportunity, as it allowed them to focus on their preparation and fine-tune their skills in sprints, jumps, and throws.
Cuban delegation will have the women's and men's paraweight competitions on the 7th, 8th and 9th in the O'Higgins region, and the parajudo competition next Saturday in this capital.
