HAVANA, Cuba, October 21 (ACN) Germán Mesa, head coach of the Cuban baseball team, praised the 59-player pre-selection announced for the 1st Americas Baseball Cup.
“It's the best we have for that tournament, which will gather twelve teams from across the continent. As to the 2026 World Baseball Classic, provided Cuba is permitted to play, we have not considered any player yet. (…) If we're looking for different results, we have to do things differently”, the former short-stop of Havana’s Industriales and many national teams whose spectacular plays earned him the nickname “The Magician” remarked in a press conference.
As to the Cup, Team Cuba will play in Venezuela on November 12 to 17 alongside Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, and Curaçao.
This continental championship will grant four spots for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo and five for the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima.
