HAVANA, Cuba, October 21 (ACN) The Cuban team won again and has four points, good enough to rank third in the 2025 Chess Olympiad for People with Disabilities, under way in Astana, Kazakhstan.
After their victory over Kazakhstan-2 on Monday, the Cubans beat one of the favorite teams, India, to which they had lost in the previous edition of this competition.
“It's an excellent result. This team finished fourth in the 2023 events and features very good players”, Wilfredo Toledo, the national commission's methodologist, said from the venue after the end of a match enjoyed by chess fans on the island.
Ahead of Cuba are only FIDE-1 and Poland, with the latter as Team Cuba’s next opponent.
The 2025 Chess Olympiad gathers 34 teams from 29 countries.
