HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 5 (ACN) Cubans Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Victoria Cup, the 2025 stage of the Russian Beach Volleyball League, which is taking place in Minsk, Belarus.
This Friday, they will face Dmitry Veretyuk and Fedor Sabaev, from the Obninsk club in the Kaluga region, who lost to the Cubans in two sets for the title at the tournament held on Sakhalin Island in the Pacific Ocean.
Diaz and Alayo reached the quarterfinals after two wins in their qualifying group against teams they had already defeated in previous tournaments of the Russian championship.
Their first victory came against Myskiv and Sivolap (Prosneg, Moscow) 2-0 (21-18, 21-15), a pair they defeated for the bronze medal in the Novy Urengoy stage.
In the other match in their group, they defeated Ivanov and Arkhipov (Dynamo) 2-0 (21-17, 21-16), also victims of the Caribbean team, this time in the semifinal round of the tournament on Sakhalin Island, according to the Facebook profile of Radio Rebelde colleague Luis Izquierdo.
Díaz and Alayo, who are preparing for the World Championships in Adelaide next November, collected three gold medals, one silver, and one bronze in the first part of their participation in the Russian league.
