HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 28 (ACN) The Cuban Athletics Federation published the official list of athletes who will represent the Island at the 2025 Tokyo World Championships, to be held in the Japanese capital from September 13 to 21.

The communiqué details eight athletes qualified by meeting the entry standards and seven pre-registered athletes opting for places through the ranking system.

Among the confirmed names stands out pinar del Río native Leyanis Pérez, the delegation's main figure and the seasonal leader in the triple jump with a mark of 14.93 meters (m), according to World Athletics (WA).

The current indoor world champion arrives in optimal form following her recent triumphs in the Diamond League.

Liadagmis Povea, second in the world rankings with 14.84 m, and Lázaro Martínez (17.34 m) from Guantánamo province, are other strong contenders on an Antillean team that shows special strength in the triple jump events.

Completing the list of athletes with entry standards are Silinda Morales in discus (65.80 m), Roxana Gómez in 400 meters (50.37 s), Greisys Roble in 100 meter hurdles (12.71 s), and Daily Cooper in 800 meters (1:58.39 min).

Long jumper Jorge Odelín (8.34 m) maintains his participation pending due to illness, although the Federation included him on the list of qualifiers.

Additionally, shot put exponents Dianelis Delís and Juan Carley Vázquez were pre-registered for ranking spots; also Mario Díaz and Melany Matheus in discus, and finally triple jump defender Andy Hechavarría, and high jumper Dacsy Brisón.

The withdrawal of long jumper Juan Miguel Echevarría due to a knee injury was confirmed, as well as the absence of Luis Enrique Zayas in the high jump for a similar reason.

The registration process will definitively close next September 1st according to the schedule established by World Athletics.

The Cuban Athletics Federation expressed its confidence in the performance of all its athletes during the global event.

Cuba won three medals at the previous 2023 Budapest World Championships, with bronzes from Leyanis Pérez and Cristian Nápoles and a silver medal from Lázaro Martínez, all in the triple jump discipline.
