Cuba falls to Peru at Women's Pan American Volleyball Cup



HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 4 (ACN) Cuban women's national team lost 2-3 to Peru in the first round of Group A of the Senior Pan American Volleyball Cup, held in Colima, Mexico, where they will face Puerto Rico this Tuesday.

According to www.norceca.net, Cubans won the first set, 25-16, fell in the second, 23-25, rallied in the third, 25-22, but lost in the fourth and fifth, 21-25 and 11-15, in which they surrendered 29 points due to their own errors, three more than their opponents.

The official team statistics for the match show better results for Cuba in attack, with 61 points to 56, but were outscored in blocking (14-13) and serving (6-5).

Caribbean player Ivi May Vilalidero stood out individually, leading the match with 23 points: 19 on spikes, two on blocks, and two on serves, followed by Peruvian Sandra Ortiz (18/14-1-3).Captain Dezirett Madan also stood out for Cuba (16/14-1-1).

In the other Group A, Mexico defeated Costa Rica 3-0, while Colombia edged Canada 3-0.

In Group B, the Dominican Republic defeated Trinidad and Tobago 3-0. As established, the winners of each group will advance directly to the semifinals of the tournament.
