HAVANA, Cuba, July 23 (ACN) A WBSC World Rankings update shows Cuba in first place as the island continues to stand out among the region's powerhouses in other disciplines.
Despite the fact that Japan takes top spot in men's and women's baseball and softball, Cuba remains the undisputed leader in Baseball5, ahead of Japan, Chinese Taipei, and France, thanks to its work at grassroots level and the implementation of nationwide school and community programs, a result recognized by the WBSC through the awarding of bonuses to federations playing an active role in promoting Baseball5.
In the case of men's baseball rankings, Cuba dropped two places after losing ground to the Dominican Republic and Australia and it’s still below the top 10 in men's and women's softball.
This rankings update is the first under the revised WBSC Methodology, introduced in December 2024 and attaching more importance to age-group world cups and national tournaments, which favors countries with comprehensive development programs, such as Cuba.
