HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 18 (ACN) Cuba won three gold medals in the final of the Guizhou Open Boxing Tournament in Chinaon Thursday, thanks to boxers Saidel Horta, Jorge Cuellar, and Nelson Williams.
Horta, in the 57 kilogram (kg) division, defeated China's Ping Lv, a silver medalist at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games, by a 3-2 split decision, according to the online edition of the sports publication JIT.
The Tashkent 2023 world runner-up showed his strength in the first and third rounds, taking the victory after his return to competitive activity following months of absence due to health problems.
Cuellar (71 kg), bronze medalist at the 2023 San Salvador Central American Games, showed his superiority to win the bout 5-0 against fellow local Shi Han Hu, while two-time national champion Williams (92 kg) defeated Han Xuezhen, runner-up at the 2022 Asian Games, in a tough 4-1 contest.
The three bronze medals went to Arianne Imbert (66 kg), Yaira Rodríguez (75 kg), and Leonardo Buides (+92 kg), in a group that included seven men and the same number of women.
