HAVANA, Cuba, July 13 (ACN) Although only half a point behind the leaders, the Cuban chess player Carlos Daniel Albornoz finished in eighth place at the Valencia International Open.
A victory Sunday over Marani Rajendran Venkatesh (India) gave Albornoz 6.5 of 9 possible points in a list headed by Josep Manuel López (Spain) with 7 points.
This weekend also saw the end of the Villa de Benasque International Tournament, where the Cuban Ernesto Fernández notched up 7.5 points and finished in the 23rd position, his country’s best result in the competition.
