HAVANA, Cuba, July 13 (ACN) World runner-up Saidel Horta won his second fight at the Open Boxing Tournament in Guizhou, China, where his fellow countrymen Nelson Williams and Dayira Mesa also harvested victories in their debut.
Horta (57 kg), second at the 2023 Championships in Tashkent, beat the Uzbek Tashlanov Shakhjakhon, whose coaches threw in the towel in the second round.
Williams (92 kg) notched up a 5-0 victory over the Belarusian Ruslam Adamonis, whereas Mesa (75 kg) scored the Cuban women’s first win in the competition by defeating the Kazakh Zhibek Zharaskysy.
On a heavier note, Mesa’s teammates Deily Sterling (54 kg) and Yoana Rodríguez (75 kg) lost 5-0 to the locals Da Shang Tang and Lu Zhen, respectively.
