According to José Antonio Miranda, general director of High Performance at the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education, and Recreation (INDER), 230 Cuban athletes (117 men and 113 women) will compete in 28 sports.
He remarked that Cuba will have to win more medals in Asuncion than in the previous Games in Cali-Valle―where the island notched up 70 (29-19-22) and finished fifth behind Brazil, Colombia, U.S.A., and Mexico―which he described as a difficult but not impossible task, since Cuba will have 18 more competitors than four years ago.
Asuncion 2025 will grant 216 places in the 2027 Pan Am Games in Lima directly to the champions of these Junior Games.
