HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 8 (ACN) After a loss in their debut, Cuban national team will face Aruba today in the second round of the Little League Caribbean qualifying tournament, held in Willemstad, Curaçao, on the road to the World Series.
Committed to regain ground and staying in the fight for the sole regional spot to the tournament in Williamsport, United States, the children from the Havana municipality of La Lisa—national champions—will take on a new challenge against Aruba Center, a 3-0 winner over Pontezuela (Dominican Republic) in the opening round.
The team coached by Yoel Flores is seeking its first win, after losing 5-6 to Pariba, one of the host teams, in a tense and hard-fought duel.
The tournament brings together eight teams divided into two groups, with a round-robin phase; the top two teams from each group will advance to the crossover semifinals.
In the other zone, the U.S. Virgin Islands defeated Bonaire 8-7, and the other Curacao team, Pabou, knocked out Saint Martin 19-0 in a day of contrasts and excitement.
Beyond the competition, this event consolidates a key platform for the development of baseball at early ages, where skills are forged, values are strengthened, and dreams are cultivated.
Since joining the Little League system, Cuba reaffirms its educational and competitive ambition in each tournament.
