Cuba suffers second setback at Women's Softball Pan American Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, July 4 (ACN) Cuban women's softball team suffered its second loss in a row on Thursday in the Super Round of the 11th Pan American Championship, after falling 0-4 to Canada in the Colombian city of Monteria.

The Caribbean team, which had earlier fallen to Puerto Rico, closed with a two-loss record on the day and will have to await the results of the remaining matches to determine its final position in this stage of the tournament.

Cubans opened the scoring with a solo home run by Leannelys Sayas in the first inning, but the Canadians tied the score and took the lead in the following innings with home runs by Callun Pilgrim and Erika Polidori, the latter with two baserunners on base, off the pitches of Yamelkis Guevara, who took the loss.

Anisley Lopez managed to contain the opposing offense for the remainder of the game, but the Caribbean team couldn't decipher Morgan Reimer's pitches, who earned the win with six and a third innings of work.

Despite the adverse results, Cuba has already secured its spot in one of the World Cup phases and a ticket to the 2027 Lima Pan American Games.
