HAVANA, Cuba, June 18 (ACN) The Cubans Zail Ramírez (100 kg), Lianet Cardona (78 kg) and Lisrialis González (78 kg) will make their debut today in the individual tournament of the World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary, which gather 556 athletes from 93 nations.
Ramírez will be opposite Abdoulaye Millimono (Guinea), whereas Cardona and González will deal with Marjona Kuchimova (Uzbekistan) and the winner of the fight between the Slovenians Metka Lobnik and Cisne María Swan.
After three defeats and two days without seeing action, Cuba’s best performance came from Orlando Polanco (66 kg), who lost the bout for the bronze medal and finished in fifth place.
So far, Japan leads the competition with six gold, two silver, and three bronze medals, followed by France (1-1-1), Georgia (1-1-1), the team competing under the International Federation flag, and Italy (1-0-0).
