HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 10 (ACN) The Cuban national soccer team will play today against Bermuda in the decisive match of Group A of the first Concacaf qualifying phase for the FIFA World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada 2026.
The Leones del Caribe have been in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba since Saturday, ready to face the Gombey Warriors at the Antonio Maceo Stadium.
After their 1-0 away win over Antigua and Barbuda, thanks to a goal by midfielder Pedro Bravo, our team only needs a draw against their opponents to advance to the final round of World Cup qualifying, a stage they have not reached in more than 40 years, when they were looking for a place in the 1982 World Cup in Spain.
With six points, Cubans are in second place in their group behind Honduras (9), which has already qualified for the next round.
Bermuda, which thrashed the Cayman Islands 5-0 in its previous match, has four points and must beat Cuba to stay alive in the A group.
In the other match of the day in this group, Honduras will face Antigua and Barbuda (1).
The first two places in the group will advance to the second and definitive phase of the World Cup qualifiers.
