HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) Cuba is hosting since Wednesday the 1st Kukkiwon Cup, an event that gathers in Havana taekwondo practitioners from all over the country.
The first day featured Poomsae matches where the athletes showed their technique in both traditional and creative forms, including individual and team modalities.
According to Ivan Fernandez, president of the Cuban Taekwondo Federation, the competition―which will be attended by Lee Ho Yul, South Korean ambassador to Cuba―will include strength, precision, speed and height breaking tests, as well as self-defense and group routine exhibitions and Kyorugi (combat) competitions for men, women and children.
The Kukkiwon Cup marks a significant step forward of the plans to develop Cuban taekwondo and increase its role in the national sports scene.
