HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 4 (ACN) The seven Cuban rowers who are preparing to participate at the 2nd edition of the Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay, left for Russia to compete at the Grand Moscow Regatta, scheduled to take place from June 4 to 9.
Despite the short time difference with the general program of the competition, Joan Manuel Paula's disciples expect good results for the Asuncion event.
Paula will have under his command five men and two women, who will have action in the men's single (1x), four pair (4x) and women's double pair (2x), with a stage on the river of the Russian capital.
Angel Luis Garcia, president and national commissioner, traveled last night at the head of the small delegation and informed the Cuban News Agency before leaving that the team is attending again invited by the Russian federation and is composed of Leuder Suarez, Roberto Carlos Paz, Henry Joan Heredia, Adel Gutierrez, Pedro Antonio Gonzalez, Ana Laura Jimenez and Natalie Morales.
He emphasized that it will be a very good experience and a preparation tournament for the multisport event in August -from 9 to 23- in Paraguay due to the quality of the Moscow competition, in which the organizers also expect the presence of foreign teams from the United States, Canada, Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Australia and Brazil.
Cuba has qualified athletes for Asunción in the men's single sculls, double pair of short oars (2x), four coxless (4-) and four pair (4x), and the women's 1x, 2x, 2x, 2x, and the mixed eight with coxswain (8+), all crewed by eight men and four women, Garcia recalled.
