Cuban Lesyanet Ruiz ranks first hurdles runner in Cuban athletics

HAVANA, Cuba, May 26 (ACN) The young hurdler Lisyanet Ruiz, 22, confirmed her climb in Cuban athletics by winning with authority in the 100-meter hurdles in one of the days of the 7th Confrontational Trial held at the Pan American Stadium in Havana.

Ruiz again improved her personal best in the semifinals with a 12.82 seconds, and dominated the final with 12.83, beating established figures such as the Pan American runner-up Greisys Roble (13.04) and Jocelyn Echazabal (13.08)
.
She had also achieved 12.84 the previous week, which reinforces her current status as Cuba's best hurdler.

These results open the expectation that she will receive opportunities in higher level international competitions, either in America or in the European circuit, said journalist Raul Rodriguez on his Facebook page.

Other highlights of the event included the long jump by Aniel Molina, who stretched to 8.11 meters, and the hammer throw by Yaritza Martinez, with a 68.76-meter throw, both personal bests.

In the men's hammer throw, Ronald Mencia stood out with an impressive 75.05 meters.

World medalist Leyanis Perez, who took part in the long jump as part of her preparation, also excelled with a second place with 6.52 meters, just two centimeters behind Hayla Gonzalez with 6.54.

For their part, Olympic finalists Liadagmis Povea and Lazaro Martinez performed well in the triple jump, winning with 14.38 and 16.88 meters, respectively.

The results confirm a promising form for several Cuban athletes in this competitive cycle, with a view to future international events.
