Leading duel at international chess tournament Capablanca in Memoriam

HAVANA, Cuba, May 16 (ACN) Russian Volodar Murzin and Danish Jonas Buhl-Bjerre will face each other today as leaders of the Elite group in the Varadero 2025 International Capablanca in Memoriam Chess Tournament, which is now in its final stage.

Both have 3.5 points out of a possible six and the tight embrace was achieved after Murzin drew against his compatriot Arseneiy Nesterov, and Bjerre defeated Cuba's Carlos Daniel Albornoz.

Unfortunately, it was the third defeat in a row for Albornoz, who must take advantage of this Friday's break to try to release some tension and face the final stretch of the tournament.

After Bjerre and Murzin, Nesterov appears in the ranking with three units and Albornoz and the Macedonian Evgeny Romanov close with just one.

In the Open segment, on Thursday there was a general rest, so nothing changed in the ranking, which is headed with 4.5 points after five rounds by the Canadian Alexandre Lesiege, the Azeri Azer Mirzoev, the Cubans Luis Lazaro Aguero and Michel Alejandro Diaz.

The matches of the sixth day: Lesiege-Michel Alejandro and Mirzoev-Agüero. Without forgetting to pay attention to others who are “stepping on the heels” owners of four points as the Cubans Omar Almeida and Dylan Berdayes, who will be rivals of the Mexican Carlos Sandoval and the Canadian Sambuev Bator, respectively.
