HAVANA, Cuba, May 7 (ACN) Cuban closer Raidel Martinez shined again today in Japan by adding his eleventh save of the season, securing a 6-4 victory for the Yomiuri Giants against the Hanshin Tigers.
In front of a crowd of almost 42,000 fans at the emblematic Tokyo Dome, the Cuban right-hander retired the three batters he faced, including a strikeout that sealed the game.
With this victory, Yomiuri is equal at the top of the Central League with Hanshin, both with a record of 18 wins, 14 losses and a tie.
Martinez maintains his unblemished effectiveness after 13.2 innings of work in the campaign, during that stretch he has only been hit twice and has given 10 strikeouts, consolidating himself as a key piece in the Giants' bullpen.
With 11 saves to his credit, the Cuban is second in the saves ranking in both leagues, behind Japan's Shinya Matsuyama, who achieved his twelfth save today.
