HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 22 (ACN) The 17 Cuban judokas who will participate in the 50th edition of the Pan American and Oceania Championships in Santiago de Chile 2025, finalize details of the preparation in the tatami of the Cerro Pelado High Performance Athletes Training Center, in Havana.
Andres Taño, national commissioner ratified to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the number of members of the women's and men's teams, led by Andy Granda, over 100 kilograms (kg), Ivan Silva (100 kg), Maylin del Toro (63 kg) and Jonathan Charon (60 kg).
Orlando Polanco (66 kg), Marlon Alejandro Herrera (73 kg), Hector Lazaro San Roman (73 kg), Ruben Dario Romero (81 kg), Naysdel Cardoso (90 kg) and Jonathan Loynaz (+100 kg), under the direction of Julio Alderete and Antonio Becali, coaches of the men's team, will also travel to Chile this Thursday.
The women's team also includes Yainet Coronado (48 kg), Lilian Elianis Morera (52 kg), Lian Benavides (57 kg), Yessica Castellanos (63 kg), Yilian Thalía Carvajal (70 kg), Lianet Cardona (78 kg) and Naomi Elizalde (+78 kg), under the supervision of coaches Boannys Chang and Joslier Tellez.
According to the International Federation's website www.ijf.org, 212 athletes -116 men and 96 women- from 23 countries are registered for the tournament so far.
Recently, Granda, Silva, Maylin and Charon toured Europe, participating in the Grand Slam (GS) of Paris, Tashkent and Tbilisi, and the Grand Prix (GP) of Linz, and training camps, with a highlight for the Olympian Silva, world runner-up in Baku, but in the 90kg.
