Fidel in the veins of Cuban sports

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 4 (ACN) Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro’s strategy to place Cuba at the forefront of world sports is the main topic of the book En las venas del deporte cubano, una potencia de amor y de esperanza (In the veins of Cuban sports, a power of love and hope), printed thanks to the solidarity of the Andalusia Cuba Association and presented by its author, journalist Oscar Sánchez Serra.

The seasoned sports chronicler and deputy editorial director of Granma newspaper addresses the origins and evolution of the ideas of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution to turn sports into one of the island’s major achievements and describes several of Cuba’s great accomplishments in international competitions and world championships, as well as the initial contribution of technicians and strategists from the former socialist countries.

In the prologue, Doctor of Historical Sciences Hassan Perez Casabona commended En las venas… as a source of information about why Cuba boasts victories in Olympic Games and world championships in 15 sports.

“[This book] is necessary, especially in an era marked by rampant commercial exploitation of every aspect of sports practice," he remarked.
