Havana, Jan 14 (ACN) The official webpage of the International Boxing Association (IBA) recently announced the putting off of the fight of Cuban boxer Erislandy Alvarez and the transfer of the Champions Night from Havana to Moscow.
Alvarez, world runner up was scheduled to fight world bronze medalist in the world Tayik Bakhodur Usmonov in eight rounds on January 18 at the semifinals of the IBA World Boxing Cup in Beijing China. The organizers will announce a new date for the fight, said the president of the Cuban Boxing Federation Alberto Puig.
The IBA also announced that Moscow will host the Champions’ Night on January 31 instead of Havana, as it had been announced.
The event, which grants boxers significant sums of money, has been marked by lack of seriousness regarding the picking of venues, dates and definition of the fights, according to local Radio Rebelde radio station.
Alvarez was also scheduled to fight at the Havana meet, now in Russia along another four Cuban boxers.
