HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 2 (ACN) Cuban sports will begin 2025 with its sights set on the 2nd Junior Pan American Games in Asuncion, Paraguay, and the 6th Junior Para Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile.
The Paraguayan event, to be held on August 9 to 23, is expected to gather 4,200 athletes from 41 countries, whereas the Chilean Games will take place in November with 3,800 disabled athletes from more than 20 nations.
The next four months will be important for the competition in Asuncion, for which 54 Cuban athletes in five sports are already qualified, a number expected to grow as others will have a chance to earn a slot in coming tournaments scheduled until April 30.
Cuba finished fifth in the 2021 Games held in Cali, Colombia, with 29 gold, 19 silver and 22 bronze medals.
The individual and collective results in these two events will be key to the Olympic cycle leading up to Los Angeles 2028.
