Cuba remains undefeated at U15 Caribbean Baseball Cup held in Nassau

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) Cuba maintained its undefeated record at the 2nd Caribbean Cup U15 category by knocking out St. Maarten 13-1 in a match held at the Andre Rodgers Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas.

The team coached by professor Walter Urrutia, which debuted on Wednesday with a resounding 12-0 victory over the U.S. Virgin Islands, showed another 10-strikeout attack to defeat the small island and demonstrate that, along with the hosts Bahamas, they are the favorites to win the crown.

Compiling 3-2 doubles each were starter Johan Acosta and designated hitter Antonio Nolasco, the latter with three RBIs to his records.

Cuban Jose Luis Arias pitched two and a third innings without accepting any runs and with five strikeouts, but the praise went to his substitute Joseph Arias, who got five outs, three of them on a hit-by-pitch.

The only run for the defeated team was scored in the last inning on the account of Lekian Acosta.

Today, Friday, the Cuban team will face the locals in the last game of the qualifying phase and on Saturday they will play the semifinals.

According to the competition schedule, the best placed team will play the fourth place team in search of a spot in Monday's final, which will also be played by the winner of the game between the places two and three.
