Cuban champion seeks to win at chess Revolution Cup

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 15 (ACN) Getting his second victory in a match in which he had a discreet start will be a priority today for Cuban Luis Ernesto Quesada, main player at the International and National Chess Tournament Revolution Cup 2024, which is being played in Mexico City.

The current Cuban champion defeated the previous day the host Julio Cesar Diaz, in a match that could be considered as the awakening after suffering consecutive defeats in the first two rounds.

Fortunately, the panorama began to change during the third day of the Magistral group, when he defeated Diaz with the black pieces for 41 moves of a defense of the Two Knights.

Less successful were the performances of Cubans Abel Fabian Lopez and Roberto Alejandro Ramos, who lost with clear pieces to the Colombian Sebastian Felipe Sanchez and the Cuban representing Mexico, Juan Carlos Gonzalez, in that order.

For now, Sanchez and Spanish Jose Fernando Cuenca lead the tournament, as the only ones with a perfect record in three performances. Local star Sion Radamantys Galaviz dropped from the top after a draw with Kevin Cori, a Peruvian nationalized Mexican.

Friday Quesada will have the opportunity to halt one of the leaders by moving black pieces against Sanchez. Roberto Alejandro and Abel Fabian will be rivals in another of the tables.
