HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 29 (ACN) Cuba will seek today to secure four bronze medals at the Youth World Boxing Championships in Budva 2024, when Angel Manuel Sober, in the 48 kilograms (kg), David Manuel Espinosa (67 kg), Yurisniel Abreu (75 kg) and Javier Alexander Rawlins (86 kg) compete in the quarterfinals.
Sober will face Azerbaijani Bilalhabasi Nazarov, Espinosa against Moldovan Daniil Guranda, Abreu will fight Kazakhstan's Sanzhar-Ali Begaliyev and Rawlins against Russia's Kamil Dzhamaev.
On Monday, Yojander Fuentes (57 kg) defeated Greek Georgios Pleas 3-2 in the third round, and will fight Wednesday to secure the bronze metal against Russian Islam Ibragimov.
These five bouts are important because, if they win, they can continue their road to improve the color of the medals in the competition in the city of Morocco, to which the Cuban team arrived with the purpose of surpassing the result achieved in La Nucia 2022, Spain, according to the head coach, Santiago Suarez.
The three defeats of Cubans, also led by coaches Walfrido Ilizastigui and Armando David Cámara, were suffered in the Moroccan city by Kevin Sanchez (54 kg), Jorge Luis Mayeta (80 kg) and Yoelvis Leyan Tejera (63.5 kg).
