HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 25 (ACN) Cuba’s Andy Granda, Ivan Silva, Idalis Ortiz and Maylin del Toro will compete in the 2024 Olympic Games.
Granda (+100 kg) boasted the best spot on the ranking for Paris after finishing fifth with 5,554 points, whereas Silva (90 kg) was tenth with 4264 points, Idalis (+78 kg) nineteenth with 2983 and Maylín (63 kg) twenty-first with 3036, according to figures provided by the International Judo Federation (IJF).
Ortiz, who will be standard-bearer of the Cuban delegation along with Greco-Roman wrestler Mijaín López, will be seeking her fifth Olympic medal.
Granda won the 2022 world championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, whereas Silva finished second in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 2018, and fifth in Tashkent. On her end, Maylin is a three-time winner of Pan American Games and has two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in Pan American championships.
Cuban judo will have in Paris two athletes less than in Tokyo 2020.
