HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 25 (ACN) World Aquatics finally made the long-awaited and well-deserved announcement that Cuban diver Anisley Garcia will have a spot at the 2024 Olympics to compete in the 10m-platform event.
García thus became the 47th Cuban athlete who will be in Paris this summer along with her teammate Prisis Leydis Ruiz, signed up for the 3m springboard competition. Both divers had been awaiting confirmation based on their results in the 2024 World Aquatics Championships held in Doha, Qatar, where they finished 19th and 16th, respectively.
Cuba intends to qualify up to 60 or 61 athletes for Paris 2024—less than the island’s 69-strong delegation to Tokyo 2020—in an expected number of 16 disciplines, of which 14 already have the Olympic ticket. Meanwhile, several Cuban sport teams are training abroad, including those of judo, rowing, driving, boxing, taekwondo, canoeing, athletics and wrestling.
The island has also reasserted its purpose of making it to the top 20 list of the Games.
