
HAVANA, Cuba, May 13 (ACN) Cuban canoeist Yarisleidys Cirilo won the bronze medal in the single scull (C-1) at 200 meters, at the closing of the World Sprint Canoe World Cup, held in Szeged, Hungary.
According to the website www.canoeicf.com, Cirilo had a bad start, but improved until she finished third with a time of 46.21 seconds, surpassed by the Canadians Katie Vincet (45.54) and Sophie Jensen (46.16), respectively.
Cuban advanced to the A final by winning semifinal two with a time of 45.71 seconds, while her compatriot Yinnoly Franchesca Lopez (49.13) finished ninth in semifinal one and was out of contention for the medals.
On Sunday, Cuban canoeist Jose Ramon Pelier also competed, who advanced to the A final, but finished eighth with a time of 3:50.67 minutes, an event dominated by Brazilian Isaquias Guimaraes Queiroz (3:45.84), followed by Frenchman Adrien Bart (3:47.23) and Russian Zakhart (3:42.32), in that order.
The three Cuban canoeists already have their tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, led by world champion and Olympic finalist in Tokyo 2020 Cirilo, who has the tickets in the C-1 to 200 meters and the C-2 to 500 with the young Franchesca, and Pelier in the C-1 to 1,000 meters.
