
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 8 (ACN) Jennys Garcia and Yonaldi Gonzalez, both in the 60 kilograms (kg) of the J1 category, will be in action today for Cuba in the first day of the World Parajudo Championships, to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Senen Ramos, head coach of the men's team, told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that Garcia and Gonzalez will be in the same division, but for pool D and A, respectively.
The information sent from the headquarters points out that Gonzalez, a debutant in international events, was bye in the first round of preliminaries and is waiting for the winner of the fight between the Uzbek D.Maydonov and the Iraqi Q. Abdulrhman.
Meanwhile, Garcia, 22 years old and bronze medalist at the Grand Prix of Brazil in 2022, will also have his first opponent in the second round of the elimination fights against the winner of the fight between Brazilian R. Paixao and Kyrgyzstan's T. Abdikaromov.
The J1 category groups parajudocas with visual acuity less than or equal to LogMAR 2.6 in binocular vision and J2 groups those with visual acuity between LogMAR 1.3 and 2.5 in binocular vision, or with a binocular visual field of 60 degrees or less in diameter.
This event gathers 250 athletes from 41 countries and the main objectives of the Cubans are to achieve the visual classification by the new judo rules of the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) and to achieve the most number of points for the world ranking, which qualifies for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
