HAVANA, Cuba, November 24 (CAN) PhD. Nivian Montes de Oca, a researcher at the National Center for Agricultural and Livestock Health (Censa by its Spanish acronym) in the Cuban western province of Mayabeque, is now vice president of the international initiative PREZODE (Prevention of Zoonotic Emergencies), a global effort launched by France to address the emergence of zoonotic diseases.
According to the weekly newspaper Mayabeque, the appointment recognizes the prestige of Cuban science and the work of Censa, an institution that, along with the University of Havana and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, represents the country in this program.
As stated on Censa's social media profile, assuming this responsibility entails new challenges in a context marked by limited access to funding due to the economic, financial, and commercial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States.
Nevertheless, the source confirms, there is confidence that the specialist's leadership will contribute to the success of the global mission to prevent diseases transmitted from animals to humans.
