amaica Recognizes Cuban Medical Support After Hurricane Melissa

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 4 (ACN) Jamaican health authorities expressed their gratitude to the Cuban medical brigade for their work during and after the passage of Hurricane Melissa, which heavily impacted the island, as reported by Cuba's Ministry of Public Health (Minsap) on its official website.

According to official sources, Errol Greene, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Wellness; Patricia Ingrid, National Director of Nursing; and Rowena Palmer, Director of International Relations, sent messages of recognition to the brigade's leadership.

Executives from hospital institutions and Jamaican work teams highlighted the joint cooperation and support of the Cuban professionals during the emergency.

Seventy-eight Cuban collaborators in hospital emergency services guaranteed continuous care, even in centers that remained open during the storm, in accordance with the national disaster response plan.

Eighty-nine collaborators deployed in the most damaged areas maintained medical assistance to the population, despite the lack of electricity and drinking water.

Katia Ochoa, head of the brigade, stated that the professionals diligently followed protection and safety measures and personally supervised the situation in affected areas to insist on prophylactic actions against potential epidemics.

The visited localities included Santa Elizabeth, Mandeville, Falmouth, Montego Bay, and Savanna la Mar, where severe damage was reported.

Cuban medical collaboration in Jamaica will mark half a century of presence in 2026, having begun with 14 collaborators in Savanna la Mar, and continues as part of the solidarity ties in the field of public health.
