HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (ACN) In statements to the press yesterday, Dr. Francisco Durán García, national director of Hygiene and Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, reported the presence of the dengue and oropouche viruses in 14 and 15 provinces of the country, respectively, and urged the population to step up hygiene and environmental sanitation and avoid the accumulation of water, given the proliferation of mosquitoes as a result of the heavy rains of recent days.
He stressed the need to see a doctor at once if symptoms such as headaches, joint pain, vomiting, diarrhea and fever appear, particularly in the case of children of up to 12 years of age, who must be admitted in hospital for observation if they have a fever, in line with the protocols issued by the Ministry of Public Health.
Dr. Duran remarked that the vaccination campaign against pneumococcal disease with the vaccine Pneumosil 10 Valente for children born in 2024 and the Cuban immunogen Quimio-Vio for two-year-olds is making good progress nationwide.
The specialist pointed out that Cuba maintains a strict epidemiological surveillance system in place for the timely detection of communicable diseases.
