HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 2 (ACN) The International Course on Dengue and Emerging Arbovirosis will be held at the Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) from August 19 to 30, 2024, in order to update and prepare health personnel on epidemiological incidences.
According to the website of the scientific entity, this event will be a space for training on the epidemiological situation in the Latin America and the advances in the knowledge, prevention and control of these febrile syndromes, with special reference to Chikungunya, Zika, Yellow Fever, Mayaro and Oropouche.
Through conferences, symposiums and round tables, a group of experts will present topics of interest related to the clinical management of patients, vector control, advances in research on pathogenesis, vaccines, individual genetics, viruses, new control tools and the influence of climate change on the emergence of diseases transmitted by mosquitoes of the genus Aedes Aegypti, Culex and Culicoides (midge).
In view of the new scenario of co-circulation of arbovirosis, new international initiatives and their impact on the emerging control will be shared, according to the announcement.
The course will be held to honor the 87th anniversary of the founding of the IPK and is also sponsored by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Collaborating Center for the Study of Dengue and its Control, the Cuban Society of Microbiology and Parasitology and the Ministry of Public Health.
According to PAHO reports, there is a high presence of cases of Dengue and Oropouche in Latin America and the Caribbean; therefore, prevention and health control strategies are being reinforced, with a cross-cutting focus on communication and community participation.
