Las Tunas, Oct 24 (ACN) A complex epidemiological scenario is prevailing in this eastern Cuban province marked by the proliferation of Aedes aegypti mosquitos and increasing number of Dengue cases.
All eight municipalities in the province of Las Tunas report the incidence of mosquito breeding sites, which favors the spread of Dengue Fever, said Jose Angel Rodriguez, vice-director of anti-vector surveillance and fight with the provincial center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology in statements to the Cuban News Agency.
According to the official the proliferation of mosquito breeding sites is due to a noticeable lack of resources used to fight the vector, no coordination among the agencies or institutions which should contribute to address the problem, plus poor awareness and lack of action on the part of community members.
Since 90 percent of the breeding sites are found inside homes and in their surroundings—leaking water pipes, water deposits in the open, animal feeding areas--, it is necessary for the people to understand the need to lower that risk as the only way to reduce the presence of mosquitos.
A dengue patient can show different symptoms which could lead to the severity of the disease such as repeated vomiting, edema or swelling, intense and sustained abdominal pain, irritability, drowsiness, fainting and bleeding.
