HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 15 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Cuban communist party and president of the country, recalled today the 23rd anniversary of the founding of the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM by its Spanish acronym) by the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.
The president on Twitter sent a warm hug to the students, professors and graduates of the prestigious health institution.
Diaz-Canel recalled the words of the Commander in Chief when he said that these doctors are professionals willing to work wherever they are needed, in the most remote corners where others are not willing to go.
Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz congratulated in a tweet those who are part of the center that trains professionals from different parts of the world and has become an example of Cuba's solidarity and internationalism.
Jose Angel Portal Miranda, Minister of Public Health, acknowledged the work of ELAM's directors, faculty and other workers in their daily activities.
With their work, they have fulfilled the noble commitment of training thousands of young people from the poorest places in all continents as doctors, he said on the same social network.
ELAM was founded in 1999 to create general doctors oriented towards primary health care work and capable of working in their region to meet the needs of the community and contribute to sustainable human development.
