Inspectors in Santiago de Cuba supervise work of private restaurants

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 22 (ACN) The number of private restaurants have grown in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba since 2010 when the government expanded its non-state policy but with the necessary supervision in order to prevent illegalities or the none compliance of regulations.

The head of the Department of Assistance to Taxpayers of the National Office of Tax Management, ONAT, in the territory, Midiala Tornes Romero said that private restaurants in addition to the over 170 sectors guarantees employment and through its Tax System contributes to the State Budget and supports public spending in compliance with the Guidelines of the Economic and Social Policy of the Party and Revolution.

Tornes Romero pointed out that to prevent civic irregularities, ONAT and the police forces worked together in creating an action plan last June 15th aimed at fomenting a tax culture and citizen discipline in the legal sector.

The program is also aimed at preventing, detecting and eliminating any tax evasión and the application of concrete measures in specific cases, he said.

The director of the Integral Supervision Board in the province expressed that the complaints and opinions among the population are atended and controls indicated by the provincial government are carried out.

Of the over 65 thousand supervisions carried out in 2015, 8 percent were carried out in approved activities, including the private restaurants, said Rivera Roce.

We worked hard to carry out an integral process that allows us to combat the irregularities and its causes, he said.

Rivera Roce added that the materials used for these businesses are subject to control, purchase receipts are demanded in specific cases, while we work with the government to broaded the network of ideal markets and other sources of supplies.

We also combat resources theft in state installations that could be illegally supplying the private sector, he stressed.

Rivera Roce pointed out that during the process of meetings with the restaurant owners known as "paladares" and government authorities have viewed prevention measures, detected violations many of them common issues in other provinces.

Among these are the distortion of the social objective of the sector with the inclusion of non-authorized pools and clubs, electricity theft, questionable investment capital, fraudulent procedures in occupying its property and urban violations, including artists without previously contracting them through an agency, loud music among others.

Midiala Tornes Romero added that the registered tax payers in the sale of Food and Beverages in restaurants represents close to 0.5 percent of the TCP in the province with 124 of which 76 percent is based in the main provincial city.
