HAVANA, Cuba, November 25 (ACN) At the 41st Havana International Fair, which opened on Monday, a forum of the Cuba-Russia Business Committee identified new opportunities for cooperation to further strengthen economic ties between the two countries.
Carlos Luis Jorge Mendez, first Deputy minister of foreign trade and foreign investment (MINCEX by its Spanish acronym), noted that the large turnout of businesspeople and officials at the meeting, held in one of the Expocuba halls, is an unequivocal and clear indication of the excellent state of bilateral relations.
He stated that this is closely linked to the important role of the Russian Federation in Cuba's economic development, its potential to strengthen existing ties, and its ability to explore new directions and business opportunities.
Jorge Mendez paid tribute to the late Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, the recently deceased Deputy PM, who contributed to the expansion and consolidation of these economic and trade relations.
During the exchange, officials and business leaders from the Eurasian nation, attending FIHAV 2025, discussed the potential of their entities and territories for greater cooperation with Cuba.
For his part, Daniyar Imanaliev, Minister of Integration and Macroeconomics of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), noted that December 11 marks five years since the Caribbean island joined the mechanism as an observer state.
Antonio Carricarte Corona, President of the Chamber of Commerce, reaffirmed the country's commitment to becoming a logistics hub for EAEU member nations in the Latin American and Caribbean region.
Carricarte moderated the interactive panel "Current Issues on Different Business Models and Success Stories," in which national executives from priority sectors such as agriculture, food, and industry presented their entities' interests, needs, incentives, and potential for cooperation with the Slavic giant.
On Monday, in the presence of Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, the Russian Pavilion at FIHAV 2025 was opened at Expocuba.
