Cuban province strengthens preparations for the upcoming sugar harvest

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, November 7 (ACN) Villa Clara is reinforcing preparations for the 2025-2026 sugar harvest with a goal of producing 20,000 tons of raw sugar for the subsidized food basket.

This harvest will involve the Quintin Bandera sugar mill in the municipality of Corralillo and the Hector Rodríguez mill in Sagua la Grande, the only mills operating in the province.

Lazaro Acosta Morales, head of maintenance at the Sagua la Grande mill, told the Cuban News Agency that they have received support and guidance from brigades from the Industrial Technical Services Company (Zeti) in Santiago de Cuba, as well as from other entities in the sector in the central region, to minimize contingencies and ensure higher levels of production efficiency.

He explained that the team remains committed to completing the repair program to successfully fulfill their social responsibility and be ready for the start of the harvest, planned for the first half of December, despite the current challenges facing the archipelago.

Serguei Borges Perez, president of the Antonio Escaño Basic Unit of Cooperative Production (UBPC) in Quemado de Güines, confirmed that the collective has already completed its 2025 land planting program, for which nearly 6,000 hectares were dedicated to the cultivation of the crop.
With a history spanning over a century, the Quintin Bandera and Hector Rodriguez sugar mills in Villa Clara remain cornerstones of Cuban sugar tradition despite the decline in their production levels over the last decade.
