VIÑALES, PINAR DEL RIO, Cuba, Oct 24 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and Cuban President, visited the industrial fishing subsidiary of Puerto Esperanza in Viñales today.
In an exchange with workers and management, accompanied by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Party's Central Committee, he learned that the entity is close to reaching 300 tons (t) of tuna, scale fish, oysters, and conch catches; a figure it has not achieved since 2019.
According to Noriel Arteaga Gonzalez, its director, this year the plan is to catch 399 tons for its various destinations, and its conversion into a company last year gave them greater powers.
The acquisition of fuel has been the main factor influencing catch compliance, which is why today we have eight production chains, three with private companies and the rest with units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, he explained.
All residents of Puerto Esperanza received three kilograms of fish through their ration book, and they support the family care systems in that community and the town of Viñales, as well as the nursing home and the grandparents' home.
Diaz-Canel inquired about the average salary and utility bills, the work carried out in the small-scale industry, and the repair of wooden boats in the company's workshop.
