CIENFUEGOS, Cuba, Aug 4 (ACN) The Punta La Cueva agroecological farm in the central province of Cienfuegos reports consolidated efforts in the use of biological products to improve soils and enhance the production of root vegetables, vegetables, and fruit.
Emilio Bermudez, owner of the farm, told the Cuban News Agency that, through a project promoted by the Global Environment Facility's Small Grants Program (GEF by its Spanish acronym) and in coordination with the University of Cienfuegos, they developed production capacities for these biopreparations.
This has fostered the application of agroecological techniques not only at Punta La Cueva, but also on other farms in different municipalities in Cienfuegos, as well as several projects at other research centers in the country.
He stated that one of the most popular products there is ash lye, which is used at the Indio Hatuey Pasture and Forage Experimental Station in Matanzas and by the Central Army, combined with other preparations, achieving good results in seed and agricultural production.
They also use the phytohormone bambusin, obtained from bamboo, as well as lime, potassium polysulfide, and purge honey.
Among the farm's most successful agricultural products is cassava "because it strengthens the plant's root growth and yields are high, with 15 quintals of this tuber harvested from 117 plants."
