Cuban deputy PM highlights importance of 1rst National Meeting of Food Producers

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 7 (ACN) The significance of the 1rst National Meeting of Food Producers, held on weekend at the Rancho Boyeros Fair in Havana, was highlighted by Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca, Cuban deputy prime minister.

Touring the exhibition stands and speaking with participants, Tapia Fonseca explored the links between socialist state-owned enterprises, non-state forms of production, and farmer cooperatives, with the goal of seeking solutions to the current production deficit through alliances that benefit everyone.

He urged people to promote sustainable practices, learn to negotiate, seek new suppliers, and continue growing in this sector, always keeping the people in mind.

He also highlighted examples such as the Venegas Meat Company in Pinar del Rio, which produces ham, sausage, mincemeat, and other assortments through agreements with the MSME Onbazar, which imports the raw materials.

The deputy PM explained, in conversations with delegates, including Ydael Jesus Perez Brito, Minister of Agriculture, Livan Izquierdo Alonso, first secretary of the Party in the capital, and Yanet Hernandez Perez, Governor of the city, the importance of these efforts to overcome barriers imposed by the US economic, financial, and trade blockade .

Despite the progress, the leaders called for continued forging alliances, increased production, and lower prices.

More than 200 business entities participated at the 1rst Meeting of Food Producers, half of them from emerging sectors and from different parts of the country.
