Cuban Livestock Company drives recovery program

MATANZAS, Cuba, Jun 16 (ACN) The Genetic Livestock Company of the western province of Matanzas is developing an integral program of productive recovery that focuses on the rescue of dairy farms, improvement of working conditions, and progressive change of the energy matrix to renewable sources.

Nivaldo Molina Tapanes, director of the entity, explained to the Cuban News Agency that in the first stage of the plan, seven dairy farms are applying a model with integral improvements in perimeter fencing, cleaning and planting of protein plants that ensure higher yields and livestock management.

A pilot unit already has the scheme that benefits the housing of the dairy manager, the mechanized milking and milk cooling operations, where they plan to install solar panels to stabilize the lighting and water pumping.

Osvaldo Dairel Garcia Gil, farmer of the pilot unit, explained that they have 47 cows and a potential for 70 head of cattle, a figure they hope to reach with the new facilities and proper management.

On more than 40 hectares of land, they plant forage plants such as titonia and king grass as protein supplements to ensure better results in milk and meat production.

The director emphasized that the strategy is designed to take advantage of the onset of the rains and deploy a milk harvest with differentiated management, and a sustainable level of deliveries for the remainder of the semester.

Molina Tapanes emphasized that the project extends to marketing lines such as charcoal, to earn foreign exchange and strengthen the company's infrastructure, and will continue in 2026.
