Cuban exporting and importing company committed to continue its development

LAS TUNAS, Cuba, May 13 (ACN) Fuel limitations have not been an obstacle for the Agroint Exporting Importing Company in the eastern province of Las Tunas, which continues trying to generate foreign currency for the country through its leading products, charcoal and hot chili habanero peppers.

With only 5% of the fuel allocated in the four-month period January-April, the entity had a 5% growth in relation to the same period in 2024, but it could not reach the planned level.

Alberto Gonzalez Hernandez, general director of Agroint, the only export-import company in the province of Las Tunas, regrets not having had the necessary insurance to reach higher volumes, but is hopeful that the situation will improve in the remainder of the year.

We are dissatisfied because we have enough products, said the executive in an exclusive interview with the Cuban News Agency, after giving as an example the leaps made in recent years, especially in 2024, when with the guaranteed fuel, four times more was exported than in 2023.

Regarding charcoal, he said that it is exported to different countries, but the US blockade prevents it from going to the United States, a country where the product is traded at much higher prices, in addition to a greater proximity to Cuba's ports.

Now the entity moves its exports from different ports, depending on the situation in each place, but at the moment the shipment to other countries is made from Moa, in Holguin, with 65 %, Mariel, 26 %, and Santiago de Cuba, 9 %.

Despite the objective problems presented, Agroint is not standing idle, it maintains its contact with suppliers of charcoal and Chilean chili, and has in its projections to expand the assortments that are of interest in several countries, such as Algeria, interested in marabú firewood.

Gonzalez Hernandez plans to take advantage of the Puerto Padre salt mine, the second largest in Cuba, after Guantanamo, to market its products abroad.
