Cuba extends tariff benefits for product imports

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 28 (ACN) Resolutions 139 and 140 of the Ministry of Finance and Prices (MFP), which extend until September 30 the tariff benefits for the import of foodstuffs, toiletries, medicines, medical supplies and electrical plants, by natural persons and without commercial character, will come into force as of May 1.

These and other regulations, published in the Extraordinary Official Gazette No. 13 of April 25, 2025, indicate that the measure continues to be an alternative for obtaining basic necessities that are in deficit in the country, since the limitations persist due to the intensification of the US blockade.
On April 30, Resolutions 27 and 28 of the Minister of Finance and Prices, which establish the exemption from the payment of the customs tax on the import of the aforementioned products, expire.

The extension is complemented with the resolution of the Minister of Public Health, referring to authorize exceptionally, on a non-commercial basis, exempt from the payment of the customs tax and temporarily until September 30, 2025, the import of original containers of medicines and medical supplies.

Also, the Gazette publishes the rules of the Head of the General Customs of the Republic regarding the “Rules for non-commercial imports made by natural persons”, to products classified as food, toiletries, medicines and medical supplies that are imported for non-commercial purposes.

It is ratified that those articles that are imported as part of the passenger's luggage, as well as shipments, shall be presented to Customs in separate packages from the rest of the products, for the application of the benefits established in the approved legal rules.
